In the past 25 years, Barbary ape populations have plummeted and are on the IUCN red list.
It is estimated that fewer than 8,000 Barbary macaques live in the wild.Affenberg Salem and its partner parks not only have the worlds most important reserve stock of Barbary macaques, but are also committed to protecting wild Barbary macaques in Morocco.
We are currently supporting BMAC (Barbary Macaque Awareness & Conservation), thereby financing various conservation projects.
In addition, we volunteer to protect the white storks in the region and support “Chances for Nature” in their plan to protect the Kirindy Forest and its endemic species in Madagascar.
